To celebrate Remembrance Day, take a look at our step by step guide on how to make your own FIMO poppy.
You will need:
FIMO soft modelling clay, we used Red 8020-24 and Black 8020-9
Pencil
Cutlery knife
Rolling pin
Baking tray or ceramic tile
Step 1
Working on a tile or baking tray cut 1 portion of red FIMO into three equally sized pieces. Roll flat and form into petal shapes using your fingers. Use the back of the knife to indent lines into the bottom half of each petal.
Step 2
Cut another portion in half and roll one piece into a short, fat sausage. Overlap the petals around the sausage, pressing into place to make a poppy shape.
Step 3
Cut a portion of black FIMO into thirds. Roll the smaller piece into a ball and flatten. Press inside your poppy and use a pencil to prick small dots into it.
Step 4
Roll the remaining black, cut into a rectangle and wrap around the stalk to neaten. Leaving your poppy on the tile, bake for 30 minutes in the oven at 110oC / 230oF. Allow to cool then coat with FIMO varnish to complete your poppy.
Handy tip
A ceramic tile makes a great work surface for FIMO, and it can go in the oven so you don’t have to move your poppy until it’s hardened!
